With the oxygen-rich air of Kaz Mountains (Ida Mountains ), thermal springs, and blue-flag beaches, Balıkesir is also a major destination for health and coastal tourism. The city is home to numerous natural, historical, and cultural treasures, including Ayvalık, Cunda Island, Manyas Bird Sanctuary, and Kaz Mountains (Ida Mountains), making it a true hub of attraction.
Under the leadership of Mayor Ahmet AKIN, who took office in the 2024 local elections, Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality continues its efforts to enhance the sustainable development and quality of
life in the city. Situated between the Marmara and Aegean Seas, the city is known for its strong agricultural and industrial infrastructure, as well as its rich natural and cultural heritage. During the administration of Ahmet AKIN, projects in the fields of transportation, infrastructure, environment, agriculture, tourism, and industry are being implemented with the aim of strengthening Balıkesir’s position both nationally and internationally.
