Getting to know Europe’s candidate thermal towns
As the EHTTA network continues to grow, visiting candidate towns is an important part of getting to know the places, people and stories behind each application.
In recent months, Hans Hornik, Head of the EHTTA Scientific Committee, has travelled to Chaudfontaine, Belgium, and Birštonas, Lithuania, meeting local representatives and exploring the destinations first-hand.
These visits provide an opportunity to look beyond the application itself and discover how thermal heritage lives within each town today — through its historic sites, spa facilities, natural resources, urban landscape and local identity.
They are also a valuable moment for exchange, allowing EHTTA and candidate destinations to share perspectives, discuss future cooperation and build stronger connections from the very beginning.
Every thermal town has its own story. By experiencing these places on the ground, EHTTA gains a better understanding of the diversity that makes Europe’s thermal heritage so unique.
As the network continues to evolve, these visits are another way of bringing Europe’s thermal towns closer together and opening the door to new collaborations.
